1988 The first underground events

From Circus to
Emile de Beco

LCircus will never open its doors again... Everyone is shocked. Christophe, Stéphane and Olivier, students at Solvay et La Cambre, are determined to let their all-nighters continue.
They come up with an idea that isn't as crazy as it sounds. On Thursday evenings, the basement of their digs at the avenue Emile de Beco in Brussels becomes party central… As one door closes, another one opens!

1989 Already big business

Move to the Bois
de la Cambre

Never before have a bar and club in digs been this successful. The proof is in the pudding. Harrassed by the police for noise nuisance and illegal parking, their landlord begs them to find a different playground. And because life has treated them well, the three have no trouble finding a bigger and better location. From now on, our Thursday evenings will set the Bois de la Cambre alight. From Jeudis Verts (Green Thursdays)... Jeudis Verres (Thursday glasses)… and Je 10 Verres (I 10 glasses)… We finally settle on Jeux d’Hiver!

1990 – 1995 Inseparable from Thursday to Saturday

The « Games » years

Soon, we are meeting up several times a week. One evening, we dress up as pimps and whores. The next, we try to find our soulmate based on our star sign. Why not? We go wild for different types of music, switching between golden oldies of the 70s and 80s, and hits from the 90s. You Make Me Feel, Le Cactus, Le Soleil, Cuba, Ritmo De La Noche, I’m Too Sexy… The DJ plays music from the Big Blue - a final slow dance before bed. We also record Toi et Moi, an ode to our bouncers, who are part of the Jeux d'Hiver woodwork.

1996 – 1997 Nothing is too good for you

First lifting

Just like you used to go out in a lumberjack shirt and a sweater tied around your shoulders, Jeux d’Hiver has also changed its look over the years. At first, it was just the back room of a restaurant. Rudy Bogaerts even taught his pupils there. The tasteless interior was just as much par for the course as the sweat pooling on your forehead... We made improvements as soon as we could. Starting with the colonial style Bar Carré, a mythical location because of its tragic fate...

1998 The Jeux's 10-year anniversary to the groove of
Sister Sledge

We only ever pulled one all-nighter... so we could set the night on fire at the Hippodrome in Groenendael for a concert of Sister Sledge! We Are Family, no doubt about it... totally Lost In Music. The same year, we pimped the back of Jeux d'Hiver. Who remembers our spinning dance floor, our covered patio kitted out in white wood, and the circular bar that served the best cheese toasties and steak tartare on toast in town?

1999 Où sont les femmes ?

Frenzied
groupies

Jeux d’Hiver provides a stage for private concerts by the biggest stars of the 80s. On the heels of Boney M., who will put you in the mood with Daddy Cool, we bring you the Gibson Brothers (Cuba), Imagination (Just An Illusion), Lou and the Hollywood Bananas (Kingston Kingston), Abba Gold, and many more. As long as it has rhythm! We're not just talking Gonzague becoming Patrick Juvet's groupie, but total hysteria! And at 6 a.m., we hand out some well-deserved warm croissants.

How about DJ Pippi for a real Ibiza vibe or that Buddha Bar atmosphere with Claude Challe? No wonder people are scrambling for tickets. 2005 A day of mourning

The Jeux goes up in smoke

The night of the 6th of December, Saint Nicolas (who usually visits school children rather than party goers) brought us a very nasty surprise... Worse even than Johnny's death! Our premises were intentionally set on fire, which engulfed both the restaurant and the Bar Carré. Your letters of support kept our morale high. Our partying days were not over yet!

2006 Not far to go

The 'Pati'
years

Two weeks after the fire and once we had cleaned a good inch of ash off the floor, the Patio and dance floor were once again open for business. Bar Carré lovers found something new to smile about at the other end of the parking lot... after 9-and-a-half weeks of round-the-clock work, our vastly deteriorated Patinoire had been brought back to life. And would remain a vibrant spot for the next few years!

each other

We then launched the biggest building project of our entire lives! Temporary walkways and tents (not always waterproof) never got in the way of your good mood. Thank you for being so patient! With the help of the Belgian national trust, the Jeux will soon regain its classic 1925 look. On the outside, at least, because the interior will be as modern as ever!

2018 3 generations

Still only
1 place to be

X, Y, Z… We are all people of very different generations! But even with a 30-year age gap, we all have one thing in common: we all love meeting up with (old) friends at Jeux d’Hiver to escape with a dance and a drink. Thanks for sticking with us. We love you! To at least another 30 years! [missing text] will be restored to their classic 1925 look. On the outside, at least, because the interior will be as modern as ever!
